Kaitlyn Byrd is a junior here at UK majoring in Marketing with a minor in Environmental Science. She was recently awarded first place for the GoEuro scholarship to go on an internship program to Barcelona with SAE.

The GoEuro European Study Abroad Scholarship aims to financially assist students studying in Europe. GoEuro’s mission is to facilitate student travel across Europe by “Improving access to all towns and cities across the continent, whether it be by train, bus, or plane.”

We would like to congratulate Kaitlyn on this award and wish her the best on her upcoming adventure. The Barcelona SAE program is a summer internship aimed to enhance students’ cultural and business understanding of Spain and the world. The program provides real work assistance for a company in Barcelona in a diverse range of work fields. Interns will also receive personal business coaching from English-speaking, on-site staff to help adapt to culture differences.

The SAE program allows for several cultural immersion activities as well. Interns are invited to participate in activities including things like Catalan cooking class, Spanish language intercambios, open-air movie nights, hikes, salsa dancing lessons, and more! These activities are fun, encourage cultural integration, and give interns the opportunity to experience things that you may not otherwise have the chance to do on your own.

We asked Kaitlyn to share a little bit about herself, her program, and the GoEuro scholarship:

“I chose to participate in an internship abroad because I want to gain international experience while also gaining business experience. I love Barcelona’s culture. I believe the city has so much to offer. I really love SAE, and how structured the program is. They are very great to work with, I’ve received so much support from them already, and I know they will provide lots of support once I’m in Barcelona.”

The Education Abroad office would like to congratulate Kaitlyn once more on this accomplishment and look forward to hearing about her experience and how the GoEuro scholarship benefit her in Barcelona!

If you are interested in the Barcelona SAE program or want to learn more about external scholarships such as GoEuro, stop by 315 Bradley Hall to talk with an Education Abroad Peer Ambassador! We encourage any student to look at Kaitlyn’s accomplishment as an opportunity for anyone to start applying for external scholarships.
