Fall in Love with KIIS Study Abroad


Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and love is in the air.  Whether you’re celebrating with that special someone or riding solo, here at the Education Abroad office, we think it’s never too late for you to fall in love.  We want you to discover that feeling of excitement, feel your heart race, never want to leave—and do it all while receiving academic credit.

Here at UK Education Abroad, we want you to fall in love with studying abroad.  And with the amazing summer programs the Kentucky Institute for International Studies are offering, now is your chance.  This love won’t last for long, though, unless you apply before their application deadline, which is February 15th.  So take a chance and apply your way to the experience of a lifetime.

The Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS for short) is offering four affordable summer programs in Barcelona, Paris, Italy, and Greece (Just to name a few!) that range in diverse academic opportunities, from Art History to Gender Studies.  Each program is about a month in length, perfect for those students who want to experience a new culture and diverse learning environment but who aren’t ready to study abroad for a semester.  The programs are outlined below in more detail, so read on to see if one of them is a perfect match for you!

KIIS: Experience Barcelona

Where: Barcelona, Spain

When: June 19-July 20, 2016

Deadline to Apply: February 15, 2016

Courses Offered: Art History, Art Education, Design, English, Travel Writing

Located on the Mediterranean coastline of Spain, this KIIS summer program in Barcelona takes full advantage of the city’s rich artistic and historic culture.  Classes are dynamic and diverse, including tours, museums, galleries, cafes, and parks incorporated in the curriculum. Students will have the chance to learn through group excursions throughout the city that include everything from famous historic museums to a classical Spanish guitar concert.

KIIS: Experience Paris II

Where: Paris, France

When: June 30-August 3, 2016

Courses Offered: High-Intermediate to Advanced French Language, Literature and Culture

Paris is your classroom in this challenging and exciting KIIS summer program.  Perfect for students working to improve their French language, all classes are taught in French, with opportunities to explore the “city of lights” through the lens of academia, including a day trip to Normandy, a group visit to the Orangerie, and an unlimited metro/bus pass that will allow you to discover Paris and other locations throughout your host country.

KIIS: Experience Italy

Where: Florence, Siena, Rome

When: May 21-June 19, 2016

Courses Offered: Art, Communication, English, and Italian Culture

Italian history and culture come to life during this KIIS summer program, where students will use the diverse landscape of Italy to compare and contrast its world-class architecture and art.  Beginning in the beautiful city of Florence, students will have the chance to learn their courses in English while working on their language skills and knowledge of Italian culture through interactions with locals and adventures throughout the diverse regions of Italy.  Moving throughout the countryside, students will participate in day trips such as the World Heritage Site of San Gimignano, a vineyard in the Chianti wine district, and the pilgrimage site of Assissi.

Where: Athens, Delos, Naxos, Delphi, Olympia

When: May 17-June 23, 2016

Courses Offered: Classics, English, Gender Studies, History, Religious Studies

Studying amongst the natural beauty and rich cultural traditions found throughout multiple settings in Greece, students gain knowledge and historical insight into the world of classical and modern Greece.  This fascinating culture is the perfect setting for students to learn about the civilization of ancient Greece, whose literature, politics, art, philosophy and architecture continue to influence our lives today.  Beginning and ending in Athens, students will use the diverse landscape of multiple Greek islands to explore cultural activities such as hiking the ancient gold mines of Siphnos, or even taking a course in Greek folk dancing.
