Why did you decide to study abroad?
I wanted to get that “full college experience” and studying abroad has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made during my college career.
What classes did you take and how did they apply towards your degree?
I took a Rural Agriculture & Tourism courses that was applicable towards my major. Being an Ag major, I got to experience rural agriculture on a whole new level while receiving three hours of course credit.
What surprised you most about your host country?
The culture and hospitality. I was fully immersed, so I got to see the rural farms and the third world parts of the country, as well as the nicer parts in the big city. My country had everything to offer and I was fortunate enough to see the best of both worlds.
What is your favorite memory of abroad?
I had a free day to myself and took a moped up in the mountains. Seeing the rural farms and how hard the people worked to make a living really gave me a new perspective. Makes me really appreciate what I have here in the states.
What advice do you have for students doing a similar program?
Go in with an open mind and don’t be afraid to try new things. Get out of your comfort zone!
